‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Star Tom Hiddleston Was Told About Thanos Ahead Of Time

Avengers Infinity War LokiAvengers: Infinity War will finally pit Earth’s Mightiest Heroes against Thanos, fulfilling a promise that was made six years ago when the first Avengers film revealed that it was the Mad Titan who supported Loki’s invasion of New York. While the revelation was a surprise to most, actor Tom Hiddleston revealed that he had been informed of Thanos’ role ahead of time after asking director Joss Whedon about the details of Loki’s machinations.

Hiddleston confirmed that he knew about Thano all along, having been told about the character after conversations with Joss Whedon:

“I knew that ahead of time. I had to ask. I had lots of conversations with Joss Whedon, like, ‘Okay, so this scepter which can poison people’s minds, I can poison Stellan Skaarsgard, I can poison Jeremy Renner, why do I have that power? I open the wormhole and these aliens come. Who’s aliens are these? So, when I have that scene with The Other, who is he working for? Who am I talking to?’ I was one of the only people who had to know that information. Other actors playing the Avengers just had to know they’re up against Loki but I was like, ‘Okay, I’m having this conversation with this alien.’ So, I knew about Thanos, it was amazing to finally see it all come around.”

The role of Thanos would later be played by Josh Brolin, whom Hiddletson praised while recounting their experience working together:

“He was having the time of his life because he fully embraced the technology that Mark Ruffalo’s been working with as the Hulk, as well. I think he felt like he was going back to acting class but in the most enjoyable way because the motion capture stuff is truly motion capture. It really is his performance. To work with him, having such a great time, was really infectious.”

Fans will finally see how the Avengers fare against the Mad Titan when Infinity War hits theaters this week.

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Infinity War stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Don Cheadle, Tom Holland, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Danai Gurira, Peter Dinklage, Benedict Wong, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow, Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin, and Chris Pratt.

Avengers: Infinity War will be released in theaters on April 27, 2018.
