Avengers: Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo have revealed that excluding post-credit scenes from the upcoming Marvel film was something they actually considered.
Post-credit scenes have become an iconic staple for Marvel Studios, buttoning their films with a hint as to what’s to come next from the shared cinematic universe, and despite the fact that Infinity War represents the culmination of the entire 18 film universe up until the point of its release, The Russo Brothers openly admitted when speaking to RadioTimes that the exclusion of post-credit scenes from the film which will be directly followed by Avengers 4 next year was at least on the table. Anthony explained:
“It’s hard to comment on that again, because we don’t want to speak to the experience too specifically, but yeah.”
Joe added that it was something they considered, but ultimately decided against it as to not spoil the experience for fans:
“It’s certainly something you consider, but it’s like Ant said, we wrote a letter begging the fans not to spoil the movie for each other, so we don’t want to spoil it for them.”
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the film stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Holland, Sebastian Stan, Chadwick Boseman, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Benedict Wong, Tom Hiddleston, Tessa Thompson, Benicio Del Toro, Danai Gurira and Josh Brolin. Here’s the official synopsis:
As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.
Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters April 27, 2018.
