‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Writers Discuss If Hawkeye Was Ever Involved

Jeremy Renner Avengers Infinity War MarvelAvengers: Infinity War writers finally discuss if Hawkeye was ever on the orginal roster for the showdown between earth’s Mightiest heroes and the Mad Titan Thanos.

Hardcore Marvel fans made some serious noise during the promotional run for Avengers: Infinity War when it became very apparent that one of the original members of the Avengers was MIA from any of the marketing material. While he is one of the less popular members of the Marvel superhero team, that didn’t stop audiences from noticing his absence from the film’s poster and trailers. Fans even went as far as to put together a petition for Hawkeye to be seen in the promos.

Now that fans have witnessed the epic events of Infinity War, their arrow toting agent was not only absent from the film, but his whereabouts were addressed in only one line of dialogue. It is now uncertain to fans if Hawkeye was ever in the discussion to be in the third Avengers sequel. Luckily in a recent interview with Collider, the film’s writers Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus opened up about whether Hawkeye was ever involved.

Collider: “Was Hawkeye ever involved in part 1 of Infinity War?”

Stephen McFeely: “No.”

Christopher Markus: “…I’m just thinking back to long-ago drafts. I mean, everything has happened in drafts: we’ll roll everybody out and road test them. But once we landed on the movie to make–”

McFeely: “We’ve said this before: the idea that some characters have great stories in the second movie. And we also gave ourselves permission to use both movies to tell complete arcs for the characters. And that might mean that somebody like Cap or Natasha you might feel like, ‘Oh, they didn’t have as much to do as say Thor or Doctor Strange, and that surprises me.’ It’s likely because they have a lot to do in the next one.”

So after all the effort for fans to get a glimpse of Hawkeye in the promotions for Infinity War have now found out that he was never meant to be involved in the battle for Earth against Thanos and his Black Order. With that being said, it does seem that the Clint Barton is definitely poised for a triumphant return in Avengers 4. Mcfeely did, however, clarify why Barton was absent from Infinity War was because that type of film dictated the roster.

McFeely: “Once it became sort of a smash-and-grab type movie, anything that wasn’t involved in the main A-plot in response to Thanos collecting stones, mostly got jettisoned.”

So fans upset by the lack of Hawkeye in the Marvel mega mashup can rest assured that Barton will return in full force for the film’s follow-up. It has been rumored that he will be using his comic book persona Ronin and will be chasing the Yakuza in Japan with Black Widow. Theses Yakuza are rumored to be Skrulls in disguise which could be what Marvel has in store for fans in its next Phase. All of this is just speculation, but whatever Hawkeye will be doing when he returns to the big screen it will definitely be what the fans have been waiting for. Avengers 4 is slated to open in theaters next year.

10 Marvel & DC Villains Who Can Take Down Thanos

Previous1 of 11

Thanos Marvel DC Comics Darkseid GalactusThanos may have just taken down some of Marvel’s finest superheroes in Avengers: Infinity War, but he’s not the deadliest villain in comics. Both DC and Marvel are full of characters who are more powerful than the Mad Titan.

Admittedly, whenever Thanos is in possession of all six infinity stones he is the most powerful being in the universe, but anyone can harness that power if they successfully gather all the necessary components. If anything, Thanos is just incredibly patient and willing to wait to achieve his goals, a trait not many supervillains in DC or Marvel have. With the gauntlet, Thanos is essentially an immortal God who can snap his fingers and turn entire worlds to dust, but without it he’s just another villain who wants to rule the universe. He’s clearly a strong and terrifying guy, but if he were to face any of these villains without his Gauntlet, Thanos would be in big trouble.
