During an interview with SiriusXM’s Entertainment Weekly Radio, Avengers: Infinity War star Josh Brolin revealed how Benedict Cumberbatch inspired him to play Thanos in the Marvel Studios film.
After being introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the first Avengers film, Thanos finally emerged from the shadows to take on Earth’s Mightiest heroes in Infinity War, with Josh Brolin portraying the Mad Titan using motion capture technology. Now, Brolin has explained how co-star Benedict Cumberbatch’s role as Smaug in the Hobbit films influenced his decision to accept the role of Thanos:
“I saw Benedict Cumberbatch do, I think it was for The Hobbit, and I looked on YouTube when I was deciding whether I wanted to do it or not. He was in this mobcap suit on and he was in this big warehouse and he is crawling around like a snack snapping his tongue out, doing this incredible performance. I saw that and I was like alright, that’s the bar this is not like bullshit, this is something that you can actually, you have to sink your teeth in to, conviction, embarrassment all that kind of stuff. Then I decided yeah.”
Brolin will reprise his role as Thanos in the untitled fourth Avengers film.
“A culmination of 22 interconnected films the fourth installment of the Avengers saga will draw audiences to witness the turning point of this epic journey. Our beloved heroes will truly understand how fragile this reality is and the sacrifices that must be made to uphold it.”
