As far as comic book superheroes go, no other character has a bigger or better rogues gallery than Batman. Spider-Man is probably a close second, and Superman, The Flash and other heroes have a lot of great foes to call their own as well, but there is just no competing with the Dark Knight in the villain department. In fact, I would go as far as to say that, if not for his incredible roster of nemeses, Batman might not have had the lasting legacy that the character has achieved over the better part of 75+ years.
It’s just an added bonus that in that time a majority of his most well-known villains have seen at least one big screen adaptation, if not two or more. Almost all of these villains have the potential for cinematic greatness, but it doesn’t always turn out that way. That’s why we’re compiling this extensive list ranking every single big screen Batman villain from worst to best.
A couple of rules before we begin. First, live-action or animated, the film in question in which the character appeared simply has to have gotten a full theatrical release (i.e. wide release, in theaters for more than one day). We’re also not going to include minor cameos (like Victor Zsasz in the Dark Knight films), nor characters that did not originate in the comic world (sorry, Max Shreck fans), or at the very least, feel like they belong to it. Finally, while it helps to be known as an actual Batman villain in the comics, if the baddie and the Bat have had some kind of antagonistic relationship on film, we’re counting it.
Alrighty then, with no further ado, here is our list of every big screen Batman villain ranked from worst to best. Click Next to get started!
