‘Batwoman’ TV Series In Development At The CW

Batwoman DC ComicsThe CW is developing a television series revolving around Kate Kane, a character better known to comic book fans as Batwoman.

Greg Berlanti is once again teaming up with The CW to create a new television project focusing on Batwoman. Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries) is writing the script and executive producing the series. Sarah Schechter of Berlanti Productions and Geoff Johns are also on board as executive producers.

Here’s the official logline for the Batwoman series:

Batwoman revolves around Kate Kane, who, armed with a passion for social justice and flair for speaking her mind, soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet: in a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.

A casting notice for the role of Batwoman is expected to go out shortly, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Batwoman is making her small screen debut in this year’s Arrowverse crossover event.

Batwoman was first introduced in Detective Comics back in 1956 as Kathy Kane. She was one of the first vigilantes to make up the “Batman Family.” The character was reimagined for DC’s New 52 as Kate Kane, a Jewish lesbian who protects Gotham City as Batwoman.
