Benedict Cumberbatch Doesn’t Know Anything About A ‘Doctor Strange’ Sequel

Doctor Strange Benedict CumberbatchIn a recent interview, Doctor Strange actor Benedict Cumberbatch revealed that he doesn’t know when the sequel will start filming.

While promoting Avengers: Infinity War, the actor sat down with the people at Entertainment Weekly to discuss the film and the character. When asked if he knew when the next Doctor Strange film would begin filming, Benedict Cumberbatch said he really couldn’t say:

Not at the moment, no. The masterplan is continually in flux, so it would be out of order for me to speculate.

This seems to be more or less in line with the entirety of Marvel’s Phase Four. Despite having been rather open about what films would be released in the past, Marvel Studios has been rather secretive about what installments will be released during Phase Four and when. In fact, the only film for the phase with a confirmed release date has been the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming, which scheduled to be released to be released on July 5th, 2019 as the first post-Avengers 4 film. Beyond that and a passing mention of a 2020 release date for Guardians of the Galaxy 3 from director James Gunn, Marvel has been surprisingly tight-lipped about the whole thing. So it’s not much of a surprise that Benedict Cumberbatch wouldn’t be willing or able to talk about a Doctor Strange sequel.

The previous film was, for Marvel Studios, a modest box office success but was met with all the usual critical acclaim, earning a 90% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Since then, Doctor Strange appeared in Thor: Ragnarok and appears to be a major character in Infinity War. The latest trailer, however, seems to indicate that since the good doctor is in possession of one of the Infinity Stones, things might not end up very well for him. Perhaps this is why Benedict Cumberbatch can’t talk about a Doctor Strange sequel? Perhaps there won’t be one. What do you guys think? Sound off in the comments below!
