‘Star Wars’: Billie Lourd Originally Auditioned For Rey In ‘The Force Awakens’

Star Wars Billie Lourd Force Awakens ReyBillie Lourd, daughter of the late Carrie Fisher, has revealed that she originally auditioned for the role of Rey, the lead heroine played by Daisy Ridley in Lucasfilm’s sequel trilogy who was introduced in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Lourd was recently a guest on The Ellen Show when she was asked about how she got involved with the profession of acting. The young actress first explained that it was something her parents were not thrilled about before explaining that it was J.J. Abrams who got the ball rolling:

“J.J. Abrams called me to come in for Star Wars because he couldn’t find someone for the lead. He ended up finding Daisy Ridley, who’s an incredible actress—so talented! But I went in and he ended up giving me this tiny role with a couple lines. I was super excited.”

While Lourd did not end up playing the part of Rey, she landed a special role as Kaydel Ko Connix, a lieutenant and junior controller in the Resistance, which allowed her to appear on screen alongside her mother in a Star Wars film as Princess Leia was reestablished as the General of the Resistance, a paramilitary organization Leia formed six years prior to Episode VII, following her discovery of the First Order and the unwillingness of the New Republic to respond to the new threat.

In Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the upcoming eighth chapter of the Skywalker Saga and sequel to The Force Awakens, Lourd is set to reprise her role as Lt. Connix will once again be featured only this time, the character will have an expanded role compared to the previous installment. Lourd teased during an interview last year that she will have more than one line in the upcoming film this time around.

The film stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Anthony Daniels, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Benicio del Toro, Laura Dern, Kelly Marie Tran, Lupita Nyong’o, and Andy Serkis.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters December 15, 2017. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the future of the Star Wars franchise as we learn it.
