Although the underwhelming critical and commercial performance of Justice League has left numerous fans concerned about the future of the DC Extended Universe, there are still a handful of reasons as to why there should be plenty of optimism and excitement for what’s to come. In particular, James Wan’s Aquaman will make a splash later this year and thankfully, Black Manta actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is pretty hyped.
Abdul-Mateen randomly expressed his hype for the film on his official Twitter account. Naturally, some fans took this tweet as a sign that perhaps we will be getting our first official trailer for the film very soon but alas, Abdul-Mateen denies that prospect:
Randomly got CRAZY HYPED fro Aquaman!!… that is all. Happy Sunday!
— Yahya Abdul-Mateen 2 (@yahya) February 11, 2018
Obviously, when you portray one of the key antagonists in an upcoming blockbuster, you can get pretty hyped at the prospect alone. But based on what has been seen from Aquaman so far, Abdul-Mateen and the rest of the film’s cast seem to be pretty passionate about their work with Wan.
Besides, Abdul-Mateen has the privilege of being the first actor to bring Black Manta to life in live-action form. That in and of itself is something to be hyped about.
Abdul-Mateen’s previous credits include Netflix’s The Get Down, Baywatch and most recently, The Greatest Showman.
Directed by James Wan, the film stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, Amber Heard as Mera, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Patrick Wilson as Orm Marius/Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry, Nicole Kidman as Queen Atlanna, and Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko.
Aquaman hits theaters on December 21, 2018.

Now that Justice League is past us, Warner Bros. is shaking things up. There is now a new head at the studio and with that comes changes. It seems that the studio is easing off the gas when it comes to announcing movies. As of right now there is only Aquaman, Shazam, Wonder Woman 2 and Flashpoint with any sort of true momentum behind them. The Batman, which has a director attached, and a sequel to Man of Steel are also expected, but there’s nothing concrete like release dates for those yet.
The hard part now is figuring out what films Warner Bros. should focus on. There have been numerous films unofficially announced by the studio, with three of them featuring Harley Quinn as a main character. This shows a lack of focus. Now going forward, there needs to be a clear focus as to what movies are coming out.
