Andy Serkis made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Avengers: Age of Ultron as Ulysses Klaue. Klaue will next be seen on the big screen in Marvel’s Black Panther.
Serving as one of the film’s main antagonists, Klaue is aiming to expose something about the country of Wakanda. In an interview with ComicBook.com, Serkis hinted at what Klaue’s intentions in the film are:
“[He] wants to expose what he thinks is the hypocrisy of Wakanda. That’s really what drives him.”
But Klaue is not only adamant about exposing what he views as Wakanda’s hypocrisy. For him, he also has a personal vendetta against the King of Wakanda himself, T’Challa:
“[He’s] furious about what’s happened [in Black Panther]. So it is personal with T’Challa.”
Fans only got quick teases regarding Klaue from Avengers: Age of Ultron. Although Serkis is mostly known for his prolific performance capture work in franchises such as Lord of the Rings, Planet of the Apes and Star Wars, he is also quite a terrific actor without the technology.
Seeing Serkis in a role where he gets to show his real face without the use of performance capture will give the mainstream audiences a chance to see his talents utilized differently. The fact that he will be a huge part of one of Marvel’s most exciting new releases is extremely satisfying.
