The Prince of Wakandan made his debut on the big screen in Captain America: Civil War this year and audiences cannot seem to get enough of this character. Black Panther has been making a major impact across a variety of mediums, including comic books.
Marvel Comics’ Black Panther No. 1, which is written by Ta-Nehisi Coates, has already sold an estimated 253,259 issues in its first month. These sales have launched it to become the best selling comic book of 2016 so far. The character of Black Panther could be considered second tier for Marvel but these sales numbers are quite impressive.
Comparing these numbers to other popular Marvel properties, Black Panther still holds up. Marvel’s bestselling solo super hero comics of 2015 included Invincible Iron Man No. 1, which sold 279,000 copies and Spider-Gwen No. 1 which sold 254,000 copies.
Coming in second on the list of best-selling comics for 2016 is Star Wars: Poe Dameron, which sold 175,000 copies.
The Black Panther solo film is scheduled to be released on July 6, 2018.
