‘Black Panther’ Soundtrack To Reign Supreme On Billboard Album Chart

Black Panther Chadwick Bosmeman Marvel TIMEBlack Panther is poised to rule the box office when it opens this weekend, and now the soundtrack hopes to follow the film’s lead as it heads toward a number one debut on the Billboard 200 album chart.

The album, which was produced by Kendrick Lamar and Top Dawn Entertainment’s Anthony Tiffith with help from director Ryan Coogler, was met with critical praise when it was released this past Friday, February 9. It quickly skyrocketed to number one on the iTunes charts, and now the album could end the week with over 100,000 units sold.

The album has also beaten 2018’s other big soundtracks, The Greatest Showman and Fifty Shades Freed and is in a strong position to remain at the top for a number of weeks, as the movie is shaping up to be one of the major cultural events of the year.

“Black Panther” follows T’Challa who, after the events of “Captain America: Civil War,” returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to take his place as King. However, when an old enemy reappears on the radar, T’Challa’s mettle as King and Black Panther is tested when he is drawn into a conflict that puts the entire fate of Wakanda and the world at risk.

Directed by Ryan Coogler, Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Angela Bassett, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke,  Florence Kasumba, Sterling K. Brown, Andy Serkis and John Kan.

Black Panther will be released in theaters on February 16, 2018.
