Much of the recent box office news has been centred on the low-performing Blade Runner 2049, which made much less than its expected opening weekend, and has also made $50+ million in international grosses.
But the equal focus for domestic releases is with the releases in China, the biggest box office market in the world. Recently Blade Runner 2049 was moved up from its original November 10 spot to October 27. No information is given on the change but it can only mean good things for the Warner Bros./Sony sci-fi thriller.
In more big news for another Warner Bros. event film, Justice League will receive a day-and-date release in China on November 17, the same as every other territory. Day-and-date releases with China do not happen often, but when they do it means huge numbers for an opening weekend. The last two DC movies to be released in China, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Wonder Woman, both received day-and-date openings.
It will be exciting to see more international audiences grasp onto Blade Runner 2049, and the day-and-date release for Justice League almost guarantees it a significant opening weekend number, possibly one of the best DC has ever had.
Blade Runner 2049 is in cinemas now. Justice League will be released on November 17.
