As a potential merger between Disney and Twenty-First Century Fox begins to look more likely by the day, reports indicate that Disney CEO Bob Iger is likely stay on to oversee things beyond 2019 if that deal winds up happening.
Iger had previously voiced his intention to step down from the position in 2019, but the implications of this massive deal is obviously a game-changer for the industry. The opportunity to be a part of this historic partnership might just be too good to pass up.
Comic book fans are understandably stoked at the possibility of seeing the X-Men and Fantastic Four characters become a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but if this deal does happen, then Disney would be gaining far more than the rights of those Marvel characters.
Some of the assets that would be acquired in the deal include National Geographic, various sports networks, stakes in Sky and Hulu and of course, Fox’s film division.
In addition to the X-Men, Fantastic Four and Deadpool franchises, included within the 20th Century Fox film division are valuable properties such as Alien, Planet of the Apes and Avatar.
While Comcast has made a bid to acquire the Fox assets, CNBC reports that “Fox views Disney’s bid as superior.”

7 Best Moments In The ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Trailer
The trailer for Avengers: Infinity War is finally here, ladies and gentlemen, and damn does it look epic. The culmination of 18 movies and ten years worth of storytelling, Infinity War is set to wrap up the first three phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and project it into unknown territory. Every big-screen Marvel hero is set to appear and help the Avengers defend the Earth from their toughest foe yet. Black Panther may hit theaters in February, but this trailer has already distinguished Infinity War as the superhero movie to beat next year.
Thanos’ hunt for the Infinity Stones has been going on ever since Avengers came out May 4th, 2012, so it’s fitting that the end of that story hits theaters exactly six years later on May 4th, 2018. The trailer’s dark, serious tone shows just how much of an uphill battle the Avengers face as they take on The Black Order and their armies. After Earth deals with this new round of alien invaders, nothing will ever be the same again for the Marvel Universe’s finest heroes.
This wasn’t the same trailer that Disney/Marvel showed off over the summer at D23 and Comic-Con, so if you want to check out our thoughts on the first trailer click here.
