Box Office: ‘Jigsaw’ Beats Out Clooney & Madea For Top Spot

jigsawIt is truly the year of the horror film, as Jigsaw has breezed past its box office competition this weekend for $7.1 million so far, on pace for a $16 million opening haul.

Jigsaw‘s box office supremacy comes after we have seen record numbers for other 2017 horror flicks, including IT and Get Out. Jigsaw is also sharing the spotlight with Lionsgate’s other pre-Halloween release, Tyler Perry’s Boo 2! A Madea Halloween, will take in $10 million in its second weekend.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, George Clooney’s Suburbicon is having a dismal debut. Currently standing at $1 million grossed so far, it is only on track for a $3 million tally this weekend, making it the worst opening of Clooney’s directorial career and worst opening in decades for star Matt Damon.

Meanwhile, veteran PTSD drama Thank You for Your Service is outperforming estimates with a haul of $1.5 million on Friday. The film, which stars Miles Teller, is projected to gross $4.1 million over the course of the weekend.

Overall, this has been a quiet final week of October at the box office. However, with big budget tentpole films such as Thor: Ragnarok and Justice League on the horizon, this lull will not last.
