Batman star Burt Ward revealed ABC made him take pills to shrink his penis because the network felt Robin’s bulge was too big for TV.
There have been plenty of crazy behind-the-scenes from the ABC Batman series that have come out over the years. Burt Ward and the late Adam West have both talked openly about all the sexual activities that occurred on the Batman set back in the ’60s. Robin actor Burt Ward has now revealed another story from his time on Batman that might be the craziest yet.
Robin is well-known for sporting the green underwear in the early years of Batman comics. The ABC Batman series managed to bring that to life with Burt Ward’s costume. Despite the comic book accurate costume, ABC had some issues with how Burt Ward looked in it. Burt Ward recently revealed to Page Six that the network had an issue with his bulge in the Robin costume:
“They thought that Robin had a very large bulge for television. With Adam they put Turkish towels in his undershorts.”
Burt Ward went on to say that ABC sent him to a doctor so he could get prescribed to pills that would shrink his penis:
“I took them for three days and then I decided that they can probably keep me from having children. I stopped doing that and I just used my cape to cover it.”
