How Cable’s Daughter Could Be Setting Up A Major ‘X-Men’ Story

Josh Brolin Cable Deadpool 2 X-MenDeadpool 2 is full of references and surprise cameos, but one reveal about Cable’s family may have set up what’s next for the Merc with a Mouth and the X-Force.

WARNING: Spoilers for Deadpool 2 ahead

During Deadpool 2’s epic climax, Cable reveals that the stuffed bear hanging from his uniform belonged to his daughter. When he travels back in time to that moment to save Deadpool’s life, Cable continues and reveals that his daughter’s name is Hope. As X-Men fans know, Hope Summers is kind of a big deal.

Though it’s not really addressed in Deadpool 2, Cable is actually Nathan Summers. Now, if that surname sounds familiar to you, that’s because he shares it with one of the most famous X-Men of all time, Cyclops. That’s right. Cable is Cyclops’s son in the future. So, Cable’s daughter (and the granddaughter of Cyclops) Hope Summers is massively important to several X-Men storylines.

It’s been rumored that the next time we see Deadpool will not be in another standalone film, but in a movie centering around X-Force. X-Force is a lot like the X-Men, as you may have guessed by the name, but they travel through time. So, Cable namedropping his daughter in the third act could be a hint that Hope will play a role in the X-Force movie. The safest bet would be an adaptation of the Messiah War storyline from the comics, which sees the X-Force sent into the future by Cyclops to hunt down Cable and Hope.

So, what do you think? What storyline would you like to see in X-Force? Let us know down in the comments!

Directed by David Leitch, Deadpool 2 stars Ryan Reynolds as the Merc with a Mouth, Zazie Beetz as Domino, Josh Brolin as Cable, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Stefan Kapicic as Colossus, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle, T.J. Miller as Weasel, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Julian Dennison as Russell and Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio.
