While we are still two years away from the film arriving, Brie Larson will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Carol Danvers in the Captain Marvel movie which will mark as Marvel Studios’ first female led superhero film. While the director has yet to be chosen for this film, Marvel are definitely working on the project in bits and pieces, including her costume.
Nerdist recently visited the offices of Marvel Studios and during their visit, they spotted concept art of Larson as Carol. Per their description of her outfit, it definitely seems that they are going with a military inspired suit rather than spandex. In addition, it definitely seems to take inspiration from the more recent incarnation of the Captain Marvel costume in the comics.
“There were only three Captain Marvel images up on the wall, but they packed quite a punch. The first two pieces of concept art featured Brie Larson in her costume, which appears to draw heavy inspiration from her classic comics suit. Though the design kept Captain Marvel’s signature eight-pointed star emblem square on the chest, its look and feel were more akin to Ant Man’s suit than Iron Man’s. Like a form-fitting armor, her suit is less spandex and more military grade, covering her whole body. Her iconic sash is more of a utility belt, favoring function over form. In the concept art she stands tall, staring off into the distance, looking hopeful but tough.”
They also talked about seeing Carol fighting something that looked like a Kree sentry who was wearing “a giant metal suit with a helmet”. Nerdist added that the concept art showed Carol using her energy projection and absorption abilities.
Captain Marvel, starring Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, is set to open in theaters on March 8, 2019.

It’s a good time to be Captain Marvel.
She is one of Marvel’s hottest characters right now, with her own title, as well as features in various Avengers titles. She was even just the lead character in Marvel’s Civil War 2 event, meaning it’s about time she got her own movie. With Brie Larson set to play the heroine in a new Marvel Studios’ film and the search for a woman director ongoing, now news has hit that Captain Marvel will start shooting in January.
While there are still a lot of things up in the air about the movie, a director hasn’t even been announced yet, things are shaping up well. Nicole Perlman, who penned Guardians of the Galaxy, was tapped to write the screenplay for Captain Marvel, so I’m expecting great things.
