‘Captain Marvel’ Adds ‘Age Of Ultron’ VFX Supervisor Christopher Townsend

Captain MarvelOmega Underground reports that Avengers: Age of Ultron visual effects supervisor Christopher Townsend has joined the behind-the-scenes team of Captain Marvel.

With production on Captain Marvel expected to begin in early 2018, Townsend has become the latest crew member to join the team. In addition to the second Avengers film, Townsend has previously worked with Marvel Studios on Captain America: The First Avenger, Iron Man 3 and Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2. His work on the third Iron Man film earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Visual Effects.

Few details on the plot for Captain Marvel are currently known, though it was recently revealed that the film will be set in the 90s and will introduce the Skrulls to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Captain Marvel will star Brie Larson as the titular heroine and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. The script will be written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet based on an earlier draft by Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve.

Captain Marvel is scheduled to be released in theaters on March 8, 2019.

She is one of Marvel’s hottest characters right now, with her own title, as well as features in various Avengers titles. She was even just the lead character in Marvel’s Civil War 2 event, meaning it’s about time she got her own movie. With Brie Larson set to play the heroine in a new Marvel Studios’ film and the search for a woman director ongoing, now news has hit that Captain Marvel will start shooting in January.

While there are still a lot of things up in the air about the movie, a director hasn’t even been announced yet, things are shaping up well. Nicole Perlman, who penned Guardians of the Galaxy, was tapped to write the screenplay for Captain Marvel, so I’m expecting great things.
