One of the characters from Star Wars: The Force Awakens that left fans wanting more was Captain Phasma. During the marketing campaign, the image of a female stormtrooper in chrome armor excited many, but much of the audience felt that Captain Phasma was underused.
Gwendoline Christie has a unique physical presence onscreen, and the fact that she towers over much of her co-stars presents an interesting dynamic we don’t see from villains – especially female villains. Although she was not involved in much of the action in the last film, Star Wars: The Last Jedi will certainly remedy that.
Rian Johnson told Entertainment Weekly about working with Christie on the film. He also hints that Captain Phasma will be involved in more of the action that is at the center of the conflict for both the Resistance and the First Order:
“Gwendoline Christie is one of my favorite people, and you get to see her in action which I think is going to be really fun. That character is just so damn cool looking. Like, okay, let’s see what we can do with her. Let’s put her in action and see what happens.”
At the 2013 D23 Expo, Christie appeared onstage alongside Johnson and her co-stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Kelly Marie Tran, Benicio del Toro and Laura Dern. During their time onstage, she and Boyega stare at each other with contempt – hinting that Captain Phasma and her former stormtrooper FN-2187 may battle each other at some point in the film.
Yes, Captain Phasma has one of the coolest looks of any character within the Star Wars galaxy, but the use of her in The Force Awakens was lackluster in comparison to the slam-dunks that were the other new characters. Thankfully, Johnson is capable of giving her something more exciting for her to work with.

8 ‘Star Wars’ Spin-Off Movies We Really Want To See
May the 4th be with you, everyone! Even on May the 8th! With Star Wars weekend in the rear-view mirror, it’s still a great time to kick back, get out your old glow-in-the-dark lightsaber toys and Darth Vader Halloween masks, and pop in those original trilogy DVDs. Maybe even all 8 currently-released films, if you’re up for the challenge (both mental and otherwise). Speaking of which, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story just came out on Blu-ray, marking the first home release of many Star Wars spin-off movies to come.
Of these, only one future title has been confirmed – Han Solo: A Star Wars Story, to be released in May of 2018. Beyond that, we know Disney had at least two more planned, and probably more down the line. And why not? The Star Wars universe is so ripe for exploration. There are so many characters we were introduced to in the Saga movies that could easily get their own film. And it doesn’t stop there. The legacy of the Jedi and the Sith go back thousands of years, opening up virtually endless possibilities of story material.
Given this abundance of material just waiting to be tapped into, Heroic Hollywood decided to celebrate the Star Wars holiday by compiling a list of the Star Wars stand-alone movies we’d most like to see. While some of the films on this list are more likely to be developed than others, they each share one unifying factor: they’d all be freakin’ awesome!
