Carrie Fisher Loved Her ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ Cameo

Carrie Fisher, Star Wars Story The following article contains spoilers for Rogue One: A Star Wars StoryRogue One: A Star Wars Story was a film that featured many moments that Star Wars fans found endearing, especially the final scene in the film. In the final scene, a young Carrie Fisher playing Princess Leia can be seen holding the plans to the Death Star, which ultimately leads into A New Hope.

John Knoll, chief creative officer and senior visual effects for Lucasfilm, spoke with ABC Nightline and said that having Leia in the film was always part of the original story, adding in Tarkin came later.

“It’s a lot a pressure, yeah. I mean, it’s digital humans, it’s the hardest thing in computer graphics. Well, we look at human faces all day, every day. So people are very attuned to, you know, seeing anything that — that looks off. Because of the nature of the film, the way it sort of mates up right to ‘Episode IV,’ I thought it was important that it sort of end with that Leia moment — where she’s handed the plans and then we see where it goes after.”

Fisher herself was a part of the process and was extremely pleased with that now-iconic moment in Rogue One.

“She was involved in the process and, you know, she saw the final result and she loved it. She got to see the scene. [Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm] showed it to her. So, I got a call afterwards from Kathy saying, ‘Well, Carrie loved it.'”

From Lucasfilm comes the first of the Star Wars standalone films, ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,’ an all-new epic adventure. In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.

The film stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Genevieve O’Reilly and Jimmy Smits, with James Earl Jones reprising his voice role as Darth Vader.
