Mark Hamill Impressed By Casino Sequence In ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’

Mark Hamill was on the set for the Canto Bight sequence for filming of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, a scene that involves Finn (John Boyega) and Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran) searching for an operative that could provide crucial skills to the struggling Resistance. Hamill personally noted that he was incredibly impressed with what he saw on the set itself.

Speaking with the official Star Wars website, Hamill noted that he was blown away by the sheer amount of effort that was put into the casino interior set:

“I was on one set, and I’m not giving anything away because Rian has already talked about a casino sequence. The set, with 150 actors all dressed in prosthetics and puppetry and robots… It was easily one of the most opulent sets I’ve ever been on. I’m fascinated not by just the scenes I’m in. When I had free time I would go and observe all these different actors and all these different scenes. The amount of talent that just is unrecognized… That’s why the credits run for an hour and a half. Because it takes thousands of people to successfully mount an epic of this size.”

Hamill also spoke kindly of director Rian Johnson, who he described as being down-to-earth and calm in how he handled the project. A Star Wars movie is a huge undertaking, so it’s impressive to hear that Johnson didn’t ever lose a clear head while working on what is far and away his most expensive film.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will rise on December 15, 2017. The movie’s cast includes Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa, Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, Lupita Nyong’o as Maz Kanata, Kelly Marie Tran as Rose Tico, Laura Dern as Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo, Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma, Andy Serkis as Supreme Leader Snoke, Domhnall Gleeson as General Armitage Hux, Benicio Del Toro as “DJ”, Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, Anthony Daniels as C-3PO, and Jimmy Vee as R2-D2.
