The swift firing by Disney of Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has prompted an equally swift response from both sides of the aisle, with those who felt that Disney was justified in severing its ties with Gunn, and those who felt that Disney went too far. Fans have expressed their support, celebrities have discussed their thoughts, and even Drax actor Dave Bautista recently responded to the firing. Now, two other players in the Guardians films have stepped in: Star Lord and Gamora themselves, Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana.
Zoe Saldana was the first to take to social media yesterday to give her thoughts on the matter, tweeting out the following message: “It’s been a challenging weekend I’m not gonna lie. I’m pausing myself to take everything in before I speak out of term. I just want everyone to know I love ALL members of my GOTG family. Always will.” You can read Zoe Saldana’s tweet in the image below:

Chris Pratt was next to enter into the fray, opting to tweet with a verse from the Book of James: “Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters. Let every person be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger.” Have a look at Chris Pratt’s message:

Even with the outpouring of support and petitions on behalf of both fans and those in the industry, it’s still unlikely that Disney would suddenly reverse their decision and rehire James Gunn, given the speed at which they disassociated themselves from him. More than that, there’s the question of whether James Gunn would want to return, but this also sparks the conversation of what this could mean for those out there who work in the industry and what past comments or tweets could potentially come back to haunt them later.
Whatever your thoughts, what stands now is that Disney has fired James Gunn. What this means both for his career and the Guardians films remains to be seen, but what do you feel about the decision? Do you agree with Zoe Saldana and Chris Pratt’s sentiments? Do you feel that Disney was justified in its decision, or should the company have tried a different route?
