Christoph Waltz Says He’s Not Returning For Next Bond Film

waltz-blofeld-bondThe worst-kept secret in the movies back in 2015 was that Christoph Waltz was playing classic Bond nemesis Blofeld in Spectre. Called “Oberhauser” throughout production, the anti-climactic reveal sort of overshadowed the fact that this Blofeld was James Bond’s adopted brother.

Fans will recall Blofeld was captured by MI6 at the end of the previous film, after receiving his trademark scar. Being Bond’s archnemesis, it is assumed he too will return.

However, Blofeld has never been played by the same actor in back-to-back Bond films, and according to Waltz, this tradition will continue with the next film. In an interview with Talky Movie, Waltz revealed that he will not be returning for the next installment:

“No, I’m sorry. I’m really sad, but that’s the tradition, that there is a new… name. Sorry. I would’ve liked to.”

Skyfall and Spectre writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade will return to pen the script for the next Bond film. An unconfirmed rumor claims that Bond 25 will involve 007 returning from retirement to avenge the death of his wife.

The next James Bond picture is set to hit theatres on November 8, 2019. Daniel Craig is set to reprise his role, though plot details or a director have not been announced.
