While most of the Avengers have received solo films over the course of Marvel Studios difference Phases, there’s two characters that fans believe to be getting a raw deal. While the outcry for one of the two hasn’t been as strong, we’ve seen a number of fans curious as to why Black Widow has yet to receive her own solo film. Well, it seems that the fans aren’t the only ones as Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. star Clark Gregg has revealed that he took hopes to see Scarlet Johannson get her own solo outing in the future. While speaking with Digital Spy, the actor revealed that it would be “tragic” for Marvel Studios not to.

“Black Widow has been around from day one of this and is portrayed with this kind of heavy-hearted ferocity by Scarlett Johansson – who I think is as good as any actor working today. It seems like it would be tragic, it would be a waste, if that character wasn’t given the spotlight in the way that some of the other characters have been.”

Gregg then added that it if he knows Marvel, they “won’t allow that to happen because she’s too valuable an asset.” However, while Marvel may have a lack of female characters on the big screen, they are hardly lacking when it comes to their television division with series such as Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Carter and Jessica Jones. Gregg is proud of this fact and commented on it briefly.

“Y’know, I have a 13-year-old daughter and one of the things I’m proudest about with our show is that there are very strong, very intelligent women who are just as responsible for SHIELD not being exterminated as Phil Coulson – and that’s not lost on my daughter and her friends.”

While there’s a chance that we will see Black Widow movie in the future, it will be quite a ways out as Marvel Studios has already announced their slate through 2019. Could they fit it in somewhere? Sure. But it’s unlikely. Would you be interested in a Black Widow film? Let us know in the comments section below.
