Beyond the Lights’ Gina Prince-Bythewood was tapped a few weeks ago to direct the first episode of the upcoming Marvel series, Cloak & Dagger that is coming to Freeform. With all the recent casting news, it appears that production has officially started under the code name Shadows. Prince-Bythewood shared an image today on Instagram as she gets ready to bring Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph) to life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger” is an adaptation of the beloved Marvel characters whose story is aimed squarely at young adults. This live-action interracial romance follows Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson, two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers while falling in love. Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart — but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging. “Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger” is a co-production of Marvel Television and ABC Signature Studios.”
Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger, starring Aubrey Joseph (The Night Of) as Ty Johnson/Cloak, Olivia Holt (Kickin’ It) as Tandy Bowen/Dagger, Andrea Roth (Blue Bloods) as Melissa Bowen, Gloria Reuben (ER) as Adina Johnson, Miles Mussenden (Bloodline) as Michael Johnson, James Saito (Life of Pi) as Dr. Bernard Sanjo, J.D. Evermore (True Detective) as Detective Connors and Carl Lundstedt (Conviction) as Liam. is set to premiere sometime in 2018 on Freeform. Underground’s Joe Pokaski has been tapped as the show-runner and executive producer on the upcoming series.
