‘The Cloverfield Paradox’: J.J. Abrams Reveals Easter Egg That Was Cut

Netflix’s The Cloverfield Paradox contains no shortage of references and a slew of hidden messages scattered all throughout the course of the film that helped connect it to the previous entries of the Cloverfield film series, however, there was one Easter egg in particular that ultimately didn’t make the cut in the final film.

J.J. Abrams who helped spearhead the original film and served as a producer for The Cloverfield Paradox revealed in a recent interview with Empire that there was going to be a somewhat bizarre-sounding Easter egg that would have featured Howard Stambler’s (John Goodman) a truck which was prominently featured in 2016’s 10 Cloverfield Lane:

“During the spacewalk sequence and all this debris is flying around, there was a truck that was going around. And it was from 10 Cloverfield Lane, it was Stambler’s truck. But it was one of those things that once again, some people called it out as being too crazy, I loved it, because I thought it was just so bonkers, but some people felt it was too distracting, I thought it was amazing.”

Considering how the plot to The Cloverfield Paradox results in various openings in space and time that lead to alternate realities and timelines, perhaps we could see the reemergence of Stambler’s truck in the next entry of the series?

The Cloverfield Paradox is now streaming on Netflix. Directed by Julius Onah, the film stars David Oyelowo, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Chris O’Dowd, Elizabeth Debicki, Daniel Brühl, Zhang Ziyi, Aksel Hennie and John Ortiz.
