Comic-Con Hires Executive Director For New Balboa Park Facility

Comic-Con Balboa Park Comic ConAfter searching for the better part of a year, Comic-Con International has announced an executive director has been hired to oversee the proposed year-round Comic-Con meeting and exhibit space in Balboa Park in San Diego, California.

Adam Smith, an experienced non-profit leader in museums of national importance in the UK and US will head the new exhibit space. The proposed space in Balboa Park will feature a variety of activities and experiences including popular art, comics, film, and television. Smith released an official statement expressing his excitement to oversee the development:

“I am excited that my lifelong passion for pop culture, science fiction, and comics combined with my experience in museum management will blend effortlessly in our efforts to get this new facility off the ground.”

Chief communications and strategy officer for Comic-Con International David Glanzer also expressed his confidence in Smith for the role:

“The level of talent interested in this position made the choice a daunting one. However, in Adam we feel we have found the perfect balance of fan enthusiasm and necessary expertise to bring this new endeavor to life.”

Smith’s first order of business will be to coordinate and hire staff while he meets with new and potential stakeholders. His latest achievement was in Dallas, Texas where he served as executive vice president for Commemorative Air Force, leading the design, fundraising, and construction of the world-class aviation museum.
