One of the upcoming animated films in the DC Animated Universe is Justice League Dark, as the supernatural side of the DC Universe is explored in cartoon form. Recently, Matt Ryan, best known for his role as Constantine in DC TV live-action and now the voice of the character in the animated film, appeared at Heroes & Villains Fan Fest in Atlanta to meet and chat with fans of Constantine.
Comicbook.com chatted with him and asked him about getting to reprise the character again, but this time through voicing him. Ryan spoke about the biggest difference being that he gets to put this character in the setting of other magical DC characters.
“What is great about it is that you get to see Constantine interacting with characters we didn’t get to see in the live-action TV show. Like Zatanna, Deadman, Batman. His relationship with Batman is a real funny one. That was a real good fun thing to play.”
“When innocent civilians begin committing unthinkable crimes across Metropolis, Gotham City and beyond, Batman must call upon mystical counterparts to eradicate this demonic threat to the planet. Enter Justice League Dark, reluctantly led by the Hellblazer himself, John Constantine. Like Batman, Constantine is a cunning, often cynical loner who is the best at his chosen profession – but quickly realizes the sinister forces plaguing the planet will require help from other supernatural alliances. Forming a new “league” with sorceress Zatanna, otherworldly Deadman, and Jason Blood and his powerful alter ego Etrigan the Demon, this team of Dark Arts specialists must unravel the mystery of Earth’s supernatural plague and contend with the rising, powerful villainous forces behind the siege – before it’s too late for all of mankind.”
Justice League Dark will be available on Blu-Ray/DVD on February 7, 2017, while available on Digital HD starting January 24, 2017.
