Damian Lewis Joins ‘Ocean’s Eight’ As The Film’s Villain

The Ocean’s Trilogy remains one of the coolest franchises to ever exist. The series, which starred Matt Damon, Brad Pitt and George Clooney, demolished the box office with each respective film. In a way, it is surprising that it took Warner Bros. so long to commission a spin-off, but, in 2016, here we are. The upcoming Ocean’s spin-off, Ocean’s Eight, will be a female-driven interpretation. Of course, the 2001 hit was based on the 1960 film starring Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr and Dean Martin. The spin-off film has, simply put, an incredible cast. The ensemble includes: Sandra Bullock, Anne Hathaway, Cate Blanchett, Rihanna, and Helena Bonham Carter. Rumour has it that Matt Damon will appear in a brief cameo as Linus, reprising his role from the Steven Soderbergh films.

In rather exciting news, Homeland alum and Billions star, Damien Lewis has joined the Gary Ross-directed feature as the main villain/victim. Of course, this role of the victim, and in-turn, villain, has been previously  played by former Godfather stars Andy García, and Al Pacino. According to Variety (who broke the news), “Lewis will play Bullock’s ex-lover and the target of the gang’s robbery.” Lewis was spotted on set earlier this week, but many believed he was simply cameoing, however, now we know he has a lot more up his sleeve than a brief appearance.

Soderbergh will produce the upcoming spin-off, with Ross directing off a script from himself and co-writer Olivia Milch. What do you guys think of this news? Are you excited to see Lewis in a big-budget blockbuster like this? Are you excited to see the (welcomed) return to the Ocean’s world? If you were Warner Bros. you would be watching this movie closely, right? Imagine a team-up between Clooney’s Danny Ocean and Bullock’s character.

Ocean’s Eight hits theatres everywhere June 8, 2018.
