Back in Christmas of 2015, Star Wars: The Force Awakens was taking the world by storm, destroying box office records and bringing back a galaxy far, far away back to everyone. One actor who jumped at the chance to be involved with the film was Daniel Craig.
The Bond actor had a small cameo in The Force Awakens as a Stormtrooper, and during a recent visit to The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Craig opened up about how his role came about:
“That Star Wars, most of them, are shot in Pinewood [Studios in England], which is where we shoot the Bond [movies]. Most of the crew on that were working on [Spectre], which was happening straight afterwards. I’m going to get him into trouble but Ben Dixon, who was second [assistant director], who I’ve known and worked with for a long time, is my liaison on set. And he was working on Star Wars and I had some meetings with him.”
Craig then went on to talk about how the meetings went, including how he came about inquiring about the part:
“‘J.J. [Abrams] is amazing, it’s gonna be great.’ And I said, can I be in it?”
Finally, he revealed that his liaison went directly to Abrams, leading to him offer Craig the role:
“‘We’re shooting a Stormtrooper scene this Friday, do you want to do it?’”
Next up for Craig is the 25th installment of the James Bond franchise. The film is currently dated for release on November 18, 2019, but will ultimately depend on distribution rights for the film which are currently caught in a bidding war that includes Sony, Apple, and Amazon.
The Skywalker saga continues this Holiday season with Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The second installment of Lucasfilm’s sequel trilogy will include cameos from Princes William and Prince Harry as well actors Tom Hardy and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
8 ‘Star Wars’ Spin-Off Movies We Really Want To See
May the 4th be with you, everyone! Even on May the 8th! With Star Wars weekend in the rear-view mirror, it’s still a great time to kick back, get out your old glow-in-the-dark lightsaber toys and Darth Vader Halloween masks, and pop in those original trilogy DVDs. Maybe even all 8 currently-released films, if you’re up for the challenge (both mental and otherwise). Speaking of which, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story just came out on Blu-ray, marking the first home release of many Star Wars spin-off movies to come.
Of these, only one future title has been confirmed – Han Solo: A Star Wars Story, to be released in May of 2018. Beyond that, we know Disney had at least two more planned, and probably more down the line. And why not? The Star Wars universe is so ripe for exploration. There are so many characters we were introduced to in the Saga movies that could easily get their own film. And it doesn’t stop there. The legacy of the Jedi and the Sith go back thousands of years, opening up virtually endless possibilities of story material.
Given this abundance of material just waiting to be tapped into, Heroic Hollywood decided to celebrate the Star Wars holiday by compiling a list of the Star Wars stand-alone movies we’d most like to see. While some of the films on this list are more likely to be developed than others, they each share one unifying factor: they’d all be freakin’ awesome!
