Daniel Dae Kim Replacing Ed Skrein In ‘Hellboy’ Reboot

Daniel Dae Kim Hellboy Major Ben DaimioThe Hollywood Reporter has revealed Lost and Hawaii Five-O actor Daniel Dae Kim is in final negotiations to join the Hellboy reboot.

Kim’s schedule freed up in June after the actor quit his role on Hawaii Five-O over an equal pay dispute with CBS. The actor is set to take on the role of Major Ben Daimio, previously held by Deadpool actor Ed Skrein who exited the role due to the whitewashing of the character.

In the comics, Major Ben Daimio is an Asian man and member of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense’s military who has the ability to turn into a jaguar when angered or in pain thanks to a supernatural encounter. Plot details are still under wraps but the reboot will once again be based on the Dark Horse Comic created by Mike Mignola in 1993 about a demonic hero who became the world’s greatest paranormal investigator while combating occult threats for the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense.

Kim will join David Harbour (Stranger Things) as Hellboy, Ian McShane as Hellboy’s adoptive father, American Honey breakout Sasha Lane as Alice Monaghan, Penelope Mitchell (Hemlock Grove) as Ganeida, and Milla Jovovich as the film’s villain, the Blood Queen.

Lionsgate will be distributing the Millennium Films production with Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin producing. Mike Richardson of Dark Horse Entertainment will also produce. Principal photography is expected to commence soon with filming taking place in both the UK and Bulgaria. The film is being directed by Neil Marshall (Game of Thrones).

The Hellboy reboot is set to release sometime during 2018. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on Hellboy as we learn it.
