With production on Warner Bros. and MGM’s Tomb Raider reboot set to begin fairly soon, Variety has revealed that Into the Badlands Star Daniel Wu has joined the cast of the project in a key role.
The report reveals that Wu has been cast as Lu Ren, a ship captain who will team up with young Lara Croft (played by Academy Award winner Alicia Vikander) on a quest to find her long-missing father.
Norwegian filmmaker Roar Uthaug is set to direct the reboot, which will also star Walton Goggins as a villain. Plot details are scarce at the moment, but we know that the story will revolve around Lara’s search for father, as producer Graham King told HeyUGuys back in November of 2016:
“Well this is kind of what we call a ‘back to the roots story’. This is a young Lara Croft in search to see if her father is dead or alive, so it has a very emotional part to it and I think that’s what Alicia found so interesting about it. I think the storytelling is really good and i think we’ve got the right crew and a great director and I think it’s going to be really fun making a film like this.”
Tomb Raider opens in theaters on March 16, 2018.
