In a recent Q&A session at Comicpalooza, Daredevil actor Charlie Cox revealed that he would like to see his character team up with Black Widow.
During the panel, the actor was asked which big screen MCU character he would like to team up with if given the chance. He went with Daredevil’s occasional lover in the comics, Black Widow:
Well, DD, Matt Murdock used to date Black Widow in the comics, so that would be cool. But the thing is, I can’t speculate. Because when I speculate, someone then changes that into ‘oh, this is happening.’ And then I get a call from my boss being like, ‘Why are you telling people this?’ But you know, there’s some pretty cool, iconic characters from the DD world that I’m hoping are gonna show up at some point, you know, if we continue to do the show. Yeah, we’ll see!
While it would be nice to see the Netflix characters crossover with their main MCU counterparts, this seems highly unlikely. When many of these television shows started they were full of references to the major events of the films. In fact the producers of the show’s first season stated that Wilson Fisk’s rise to power had a lot to do with the damage caused to New York City in The Avengers. Sadly, however, these references and crossovers have become increasingly rare in recently years.
Most people cite a change in Marvel Studio’s corporate structuring as a reason behind this. On the movie side of things the MCU is run by Marvel Studio President Kevin Feige who answers directly to the people at Disney. The television and comic side of things, however, was run by Marvel CEO Isaac Perlmutter who also ran the films for the longest time as well. Eventually everything was restructured to where Finge answered directly to Disney and one of the speculated reasons behind this was due to Perlmutter being an overall horrible person to work with and for. If true, it would explain why the crossovers between the the television and film sides of things are fewer and far between.
In the meantime, we will just have to settle for what the show gives us for the time being. The series stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk. Hart of Dixie star Wilson Bethel has also joined as a series regular for the third season.
Daredevil Season 3 is set to hit Netflix sometime in 2018. Seasons 1 and 2 can be currently streamed on Netflix.
