Marvel’s ever growing Netflix empire will get a little bigger tomorrow when Jessica Jones becomes available for streaming. Although the new series is receiving lots of buzz and praise, it likely wouldn’t be in existence if not for the massive success of its predecessor, Daredevil.
Season one of Daredevil quickly established the series as the best comic book show around and season two may just top that mark with the addition of Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead) as the fan-favorite Punisher. Not only is Frank Castle a major badass character in his own right, but he’ll be squaring off against Matt Murdock throughout season two instead of fighting alongside him. If that doesn’t get you jacked up than nothing will.
For those comic book fans who are worried about a repeat of Ben Affleck’s dreadful Daredevil from 2003, you need not worry. If Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer Joe Quasada is to be trusted, Bernthal is absolutely nailing the role. So much so, in fact, that a spinoff could potentially be in the works.
That’s a glowing endorsement from a high-ranking Marvel official and it should help assuage some of the doubts die-hard fans may still be harboring. Bernthal has seen his star steadily rise since The Walking Dead and has proven himself as an actor. Hopefully, Daredevil will be another successful launching pad for his career.
Daredevil season two will debut on Netflix in 2016.
