The Dark Tower TV series is moving forward and has found a home in Amazon’s streaming service.
Last year’s big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s beloved epic series was considered one of the biggest disappointments of the year by both critics and fans. The film received a 16% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and only grossed $113M worldwide on a $60M budget. While those numbers aren’t the worst imaginable, word of mouth regarding the quality of the film quickly spread, making a follow-up all the more unlikely making the show’s existence quite surprising.
The Dark Tower television series was originally pitched by director Nikolaj Arcel as being a prequel to the 2017 film and functioning as an adaption of the series fourth novel, Wizard and Glass:
It’s being written. I was part of writing the pilot, like the first season ideas and the pilot and the second episode. It’s gonna be awesome. What was exciting about that, whereas with the film, we were really trying to create an introduction and make a standalone film that could sort of live in itself, but what was also exciting, working on the TV show at the same time, is that is totally canon.
These plans, however, seem to have been scrapped and according to Stephen King, the TV series will be a complete reboot:
The TV series they’re developing now…we’ll see what happens with that. It would be like a complete reboot, so we’ll just have to see.
The move on Amazon’s part is just one of many high profile television rights acquisitions the company has obtained in recent years in their efforts to compete with Netflix’s streaming service. Most notably, the company obtained the rights to do a Lord of the Rings series as well the rights to adapt the late Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series. Further details on The Dark Tower television series, however, are currently unknown.
7 Reasons Why ‘Marvel’s Inhumans’ Failed
The premiere episodes of the ABC Marvel’s Inhumans has already aired with good ratings for ABC, stronger than the Season 4 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the final season of Agent Carter but this does not mean it is a success.
Marvel’s Inhumans has been dragged through the mud with critics, many lambasting it as the worst thing Marvel Studios has ever been involved with, and a serious low-point for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I have seen these episodes of Inhumans and I can honestly say that ever criticism is apt. It’s even more apt to say that Inhumans has failed as a series because of its incredibly low approval for its pilot episodes. So how did it happen? Who’s to blame? What reasons can be found to why something that Marvel Studios were trying to do for years has now been reviled by many?
This list is here to detail those reasons why Inhumans failed. Click Next to find out!
