David Yates Confirms This Character’s Appearance In ‘Fantastic Beasts’ Sequel

If you have not yet seen Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, please be warned that there are some light spoilers below.

Back in August, it was confirmed that Zoe Kravitz would be joining the Wizarding World. However, her casting details were never provided and she was added to the film after production had already started on the film. If you’ve already seen the film, you know that Kravitz only appeared in a moving picture, tucked away in Newt Scamander’s suitcase.

After watching the movie, we now know that Kravitz will be playing Leta Lestrange, Newt’s ex-girlfriend. Her casting is not to be overlooked as her role will be expanded upon in future films. At a recent interview, director David Yates discussed her complicated character and how she’ll indeed appear in the Fantastic Beasts sequel. He also talked about how Newt is still very much in love with her.

“Yes. Leta Lestrange comes into the second movie. She’s quite complicated and damaged and confused and Newt is absolutely still in love with her, so she has a kind of power over him, and she, yeah, she’s a kind of tragic figure, so we will see a bit more of her in the second movie.”

The film hinted at a possible romance in the future between Newt and Tina Goldstein, but given the fact that Newt returned to London at the end of the film, it all but confirms that he’ll be interacting with Leta again in the very near future. Newt still carried her picture around, so I’m sure there’ll be some romantic tension between the two. In addition to this, Leta is also a Lestrange, so how her family will come into play will be fascinating and I, for one, am looking forward to this development.
