DC’s ‘Birds Of Prey’ Film Moves ‘Suicide Squad 2’ Out Of 2018 Shoot

Birds of Prey Suicide SquadEarlier today, it was reported that Cathy Yan has been tapped to direct Warner Bros. and DC Films’ Birds of Prey, the next film to feature Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Now, Variety’s Justin Kroll has revealed that Suicide Squad 2 has been moved out of the 2018 shoot.

Although Warner Bros. had previously targeted a fall 2018 production start date for the Suicide Squad sequel, with Margot Robbie reprising her role as Harley Quinn, Kroll reports that the film will now be “moving out of the 2018 shoot.” The decision to move forward with Birds of Prey was reportedly based on writer Christina Hodson’s screenplay for the project and the idea of introducing Batgirl to the DCEU before giving the character her own standalone film, similar to how Marvel Studios introduced Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War.

Margot Robbie will also produce the Birds of Prey film under her LuckyChap Entertainment banner as part of a first look deal she has with the studio. Meanwhile, Suicide Squad 2 is set to be directed by Gavin O’Connor with Robbie, Jared Leto, and Will Smith returning for the sequel.

Both films are two of the many projects Warner Bros. has in development along with The Batman, a Flash standalone film, The New GodsMan of Steel 2NightwingCyborgGotham City SirensGreen Lantern CorpsBlack AdamBooster GoldJustice League Dark, and a standalone Joker origin film separate from the shared cinematic universe.

Wouldn’t they now have to rewrite SS2 since Harley Quinn is in both of them, or will she stay the same throughout the entire movie?
And will these two movies be shot back to back? That will be tough on Margot Robbie, 3 to 4 months for BoP and 5 more months for SS2, not taking reshoots into play.

Why rush this movie into production while SS2 seems to be ready for a while now? For Batgirl??? She isn’t that important.
