DC Teases Sgt. Rock And Easy Company For ‘Legends Of Tomorrow’

The CW has been doing a great job of incorporating new characters into their shows, many of these characters being highly unexpected. First The Flash introduced us to metahumans of the sort that wouldn’t quite work on Arrow, Gorilla Grodd and King Shark among the most brilliant examples. Now, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is showing us characters who might not necessarily fit into the typical Arrowverse timeline.

Since Legends of Tomorrow revolves largely around time travel, the show is able to try its hand at different genres. Jonah Hex will feature in a western-themed episode later this season, and now it looks like our band of outcasts will have an upcoming adventure set during the Second World War. Why? Because another major character has been teased—Sgt. Rock.

For those who don’t know, Rock is affiliated with the Easy Company. A previous episode of Arrow used the name for a group of ARGUS agents, but a WWII setting would give us something closer to the real thing. Rock is the standout member of this American infantry unit, effective in both close-quarters and long-range combat. In some stories, he has also shown nearly superhuman abilities, surviving numerous gunshots and exhibiting a sixth sense for impending danger.

DC Comics teased the appearance of Rock and the Easy Company on their Instagram, when they posted the following image:

Some may doubt that this indicates an appearance by Rock himself, since DC only mentions the Easy Company by name. Unless, of course, you follow their instructions and play around with some filters. Do so, and you get a name drop as well as a drawing of the character—not unlike a similar Jonah Hex tease that included the character’s name and sketch art. If you don’t want to do the work, don’t worry. We’ve already done it for you:

The only question left unanswered by the filtered photo above is whether or not the bullet holes indicate anything about the character’s fate in his upcoming episode. Depending on which comic book continuity you follow, Rock did not survive the war. But if Legends of Tomorrow does intend to do away with the character, he’s certain to go out in the blaze of glory he deserves.

Rock’s appearance has not been given an air date as of yet, but you can keep catching up with DC’s Legends of Tomorrow in the meantime every Thursday at 8 PM ET/PT on The CW.
