A brand-new image of Cable on the set of Deadpool 2 suggests that the time-traveler has much, much worse mental issues than the wacky mercenary that the movie is named after.
Josh Brolin has shared an image of his Deadpool 2 character – Nathan Summers, AKA Cable – and the portrait provided does not reflect well on the mental state of Deadpool’s new ally:
Nathan Summers has a rather checkered past, and one that – presumably – won’t be explored too deeply in order to keep focus on Deadpool himself. A Cable spin-off would be an ideal place to explore the character’s history, but for now, Deadpool 2 would likely benefit from touching upon to the character’s whole story and focusing on the narrative at hand instead of trying to cram it all into the movie’s running time.
Deadpool 2 is gunning for a June 1, 2018 release date. Its cast includes Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson (Deadpool), Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, T. J. Miller as Weasel, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Stefan Kapičić as Piotr Rasputin (Colossus), Zazie Beetz as Neena Thurman (Domino), Josh Brolin as Nathan Summers (Cable), and Jack Kesy as Black Tom Cassidy.
5 Essential Cable Stories To Read Before His Debut In ‘Deadpool 2’
Now that it’s official Josh Brolin will be suiting up as Cable in Deadpool 2, it’s time for everyone to get a crash course on the character so they can say “that’s not how it happened in the comic” when they see the movie with their friends.
Nathan Summers, the future son of Cyclops and Jean Grey, first debuted in 1986, but he didn’t make his full debut as Cable until 1990. Rob Liefeld designed him to be a leader more prone to take action than Xavier and that character trait has persisted throughout his long history. Cable has fought alongside the X-Men in the past as well as fought for mutants survival against the government in a dark future.
Cable is the straight-man to Deadpool’s goofball and I can’t wait to see the two of them come together next year in Deadpool 2. Hopefully Ryan Reynolds and Josh Brolin have the chemistry to bring this legendary bro-mance to the bigscreen, otherwise Fox will be hearing from a lot of angry fans.
