The star of the recent box office hit Deadpool 2, Ryan Reynolds, has revealed that he’d like to explore his character’s sexuality in future installments of the franchise.
Deadpool’s pansexuality in the comic books is something that fans have wanted to see brought to the character’s big screen portrayal since the first Deadpool film hit theaters in 2016. Fans love the franchise for how faithful it is to the source material, with hints at Deadpool’s pansexuality appearing in both films thus far, but some fans would prefer to see the character truly represent his fluid sexuality.
While speaking at the Deadpool 2 panel at San Diego Comic-Con, in honor of the film’s upcoming home video release, Reynolds was once again asked about the topic. The Deadpool star seemed hopeful that it would be explored but didn’t confirm that it will play a huge part in a third film:
“I certainly think that this universe needs to represent and reflect the world in very real ways.
The great thing about Deadpool is that we’re allowed to do things that other superhero movies don’t necessarily do. It’s something that I’d love to see more of, certainly through Wade, certainly through this universe because it’s something that we’re building out more.”
The franchise has made Deadpool’s relationship with Vanessa (Morena Baccarin) a very important part of the character’s arc in both films, with her survival at the end of Deadpool 2 poising her for larger role in the next film. That being said, there are still plenty of ways that the next film could introduce his pansexuality and it would be interesting to see the creative team approach the topic.
