‘Deadpool’: Ryan Reynolds, Colossus’ Role & More

February 12, 2016 will mark a new age for superhero movies. Why? Because that is when Fox’s R-rated Deadpool will finally hit theaters.

R-rated comic book movies aren’t exactly new territory. The Blade trilogy embraced the more graphic and adult as did Zack Snyder’s Watchmen. But Deadpool is a whole different type of animal.

For starters, Deadpool is known for his sick sense of humor just as much as his crime fighting ways. Screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick even confirmed that fans will be getting his patented fourth-wall breaking wisecracks when the movie finally rolls around.

The comics had given us the leeway to break the fourth wall, so in a way he’s just strangely omniscient, he can talk about the fact that he’s in a movie, he can talk about things that the character wouldn’t know and everyone around him is kind of like, ‘What are you talking about?’

Movie-goers will no doubt be excited to hear that no topic is off limits for Deadpool, not even his ill conceived appearance in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which will be mocked. Ryan Reynolds was reportedly instrumental in shaping the script and getting a green light for the movie. That has to be welcome news for fans of the source material that are hoping for a quality and faithful adaptation.

But fans are also excited for the presence of other popular mutants in Deadpool. The film does indeed take place in the X-Men universe, which means mutants such as Colossus and Angel Dust will be showing up in more than just a cameo. Unfortunately, Morena Baccarin’s Vanessa will not sport any powers in this film, though that could change in potential sequels down the line.  On the bright side, taking place in the X-Men Universe means that Wade Wilson is available for future X-Universe appearances.

Sounds like fun, no? Just a few more months until we can all revel in the hilarity and awesomeness that is Deadpool
