Deadpool 2 released digitally today and the internet has been scouring the film and special features for possible Easter eggs. Including an X-Men related one that almost went unnoticed.
Finding easter eggs in comic book movies has become somewhat of a tradition in fan culture. Some are obvious, like a Dark Elf with the collector, and some are more obscure, like an Easter Egg that was mentioned during the Deadpool 2 commentary with director David Leitch.
In the commentary, writer Rhett Reese and Leitch are discussing the opening montage of Deadpool’s hits and a business card that features some markings on it and if they have any meaning.
“Yeah, it is a cleared name,” Leitch says. “I’m not sure, thank God. So, there’s no lawsuit pending.”
What he means by “Cleared” is that they were cleared to use the name of a character that the letters translate to in English: Red Lotus.
For anyone who’s unsure who Red Lotus is, here’s his Wikipedia description: Though he has been affiliated with the X-Men, in particular, the X-Treme X-Men team, Red Lotus is not an official member. Red Lotus was born in Sydney, Australia, to an American parent, and is the heir apparent to the Sydney Chinese Triad, which was run by his grandfather, who was known as Father Gow. When Gow was murdered, Red Lotus was led to believe that the culprit was Gambit by the Examiner, who wanted to gain control of the Triad for himself.
It’s unclear if they meant to suggest that Red Lotus was one of the victims of Deadpools Maximum Effort during the opening of the film, a tease for things to come or just a fun easter egg from the director and crew, but it’s early and we can expect more to start rolling out as people comb over FOX’s R-Rated superhero film with a fine tooth comb.

The 10 Strongest Members Of The X-Men, Ranked
The X-Men have had a tricky few years. Due to the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the fact that 20th Century Fox Fox owns the film rights to everyone’s favorite mutants, they’ve been relegated to smaller stories. But now, as Disney aims to buy Fox and incorporate the X-Men and Fantastic Four into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the X-Men are back.
After having multiple X-Men related books cancelled, the characters seem to be going through a renaissance. With books like X-Men Gold, X-Men Red and Old Man Logan coming out, it’s a good time to be a X-Men fan. The various teams are jam-packed full of powerful heroes with abilities that range from transformation to walking through walls. Of course, like on every team, some individuals are just stronger than their peers.
