With this week’s latest Arrow, fans have obviously noticed a huge shake up in the world of Diggle. From developments in his past, his current situations with his family and team, and news of his upcoming adventures with “Team Flash,” its hard to argue that Arrow Season 4 is really making Diggle a much stronger key player. However, one of the biggest complaints have for the character of Diggle (aka Spartan) is the helmet he has been wearing this season. From complaints and comparisons to Magneto from the X-men, to the obvious pointing out that it barely conceals his identity at all, fans aren’t too keen on the new look.
Recently, IGN caught up with actor David Ramsey, who plays Diggle on Arrow, and got him talking about the character and what fans should be expecting, including a new helmet.
*Warning – Spoilers Ahead*
The recent developments on the A.R.G.U.S. front, now that Amanda Waller is dead, and the possibility of Lyla taking on the role of head of A.R.G.U.S.
Yes, they are invested. Lyla’s part of A.R.G.U.S. That’s just the way it is. Diggle, as we’ve seen in last season and the season before than and even this season, has kind of become part of A.R.G.U.S. in the sense that he has gone on missions with his wife. He was even abducted at one point by Amanda Waller to do a mission for A.R.G.U.S.
He’s become a part of A.R.G.U.S. reluctantly, and a big part of it has been because of his wife. This will provide a place of conflict. It already has and it will continue to because he just doesn’t agree with the methods. Any organization that’s willing to put explosives in the backs of heads of convicts in order to get them to do their bidding just isn’t the way Diggle likes to administer justice. He doesn’t agree with their methods in general.
But I will say, in answer to your question, yes, they both are very invested in what happens to A.R.G.U.S. next — personally invested, and we will get into that. Part of it will even go over into the story of The Flash in how they become involved in A.R.G.U.S. Much of the reason why they’re even in Central City is because of their investment in A.R.G.U.S. They’re very invested in what happens with that organization.
The upcoming crossover with The Flash, the battle with King Shark, and why are Diggle and Lyla the best equipped to fight a metahuman.
That’s a great question. The natural conclusion would be that these two people are invested to some degree in A.R.G.U.S. I don’t think it’s a far stretch to say that they made the trek as A.R.G.U.S. representatives to Central City. They are invested to some strong degree in A.R.G.U.S. That’s as much as I can say about it.
More Details on the upcoming Crossover, and the possibility of getting new tech from Star labs to combat the metahumans and magic users of this season.
I can say this: Central City will be working on an upgrade to Diggle’s helmet. That is yet to come, and we will be seeing some of that come out of Central City. As the first iteration came out of Central City, we will see an upgrade also come out. But in terms of Central City’s help with technology to help us combat the magic, that has yet to be seen.
When asked if he likes the new helmet that Diggle will be getting via Star Labs.
I have not seen it yet! I have not seen it. Listen, there’s two things I’m anxious about: my helmet, and who’s in the grave. The rest of which I’m cool with.
It goes without saying that Arrow is seriously trying to develop their characters a lot more this current season. With both Felicity and Diggle getting official code names this week, and the massive strides in character development and backstory that Diggle has had, its starting to feel like Green Arrow’s TV show is becoming less about Green Arrow and more about his team.
ARROW is currently on its 4th season and airs at 8pm on The CW.
