Disney’s ‘Aladdin’: Will Smith Shares First Cast Photo As Filming Begins

Production of Disney’s live-action Aladdin is currently underway and now star Will Smith has shared a behind-the-scenes image featuring the lead cast of the upcoming remake.

Posted on the official Disney Twitter account, the image features Smith alongside co-stars Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, and Marwan Kenzari. Together this group of actors will respectively bring beloved Disney characters the Genie, Aladdin, Jasmine, and Jafar to life when the latest live-action remake from Disney arrives in theaters.

Details on how the live-action Aladdin film will reinterpret the critically acclaimed animated hit are currently under wraps, though the remake has been confirmed to be a musical.

Directed by Guy Ritchie, the film stars Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, Marwan Kenzari, Numan Aca, Nasim Pedrad, and Billy Magnussen.

Game of Thrones writer Vanessa Taylor and John August (Big Fish) will pen the script with Marc Platt (La La Land) and Chris Montan (Frozen) serving as consultants for the project. Ritchie and August will also produce the film alongside Dan Lin (The Lego Movie) with Jonathan Eirich (Deathnote) serving as executive producer.

As of today, Aladdin does not have a release date.
