Disney has officially broken another box office record this year and continues its domination of ticket sales in 2016. Disney has crossed $2.49 billion at the domestic box office, beating the previous record set of $2.45 billion set by Universal last year.
The records continue not only domestically but overseas, as well. Disney has just crossed $4B for the first time in the history of the studio. Helping Disney cross these milestones both domestically and internationally was Marvel’s Doctor Strange, which just crossed the $600M mark.
These records have already been collected before one of Disney’s biggest properties is released, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The film is already gaining a positive reaction and fan anticipation is reaching new highs with pre-ticket sales.
Earning big this year for Disney included, Finding Dory, Zootopia, The Jungle Book, and Captain America: Civil War. Many 2016 records are already held by Disney, they have become the quickest studio to hit $2 billion domestically, $3 billion overseas and $5 billion in total.
Looking ahead to 2017, Disney has another chance to outpace their own records. They have Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming (with Sony), Cars 3 from Pixar, not to mention Star Wars Episode VIII.
