‘Doctor Strange’ Director Scott Derrickson Defends Rachel McAdams Role

Scott Derrickson has been very open about his passion for Doctor Strange, even investing his own money into pitching his ideas to Marvel. His hard work paid off and his vision was recognized on the big screen. While many fans have been enjoying these new Marvel characters, not everyone is on board.

Yahoo Movies UK tweeted, “Let’s hope Rachel McAdams is the last great actress to play a useless superhero girlfriend.” The headline grabbed the attention of Derrickson, who quickly defended the character and McAdams.

“She saves 2 lives, morally contrasts the protagonist, experiences magic. Oh, and she’s nobody’s girlfriend,” tweeted Derrickson. Furthermore, he added that McAdams character does a lot of “saving.”

The decision is ultimately up to the fans to decide how they feel about McAdams’ Christine Palmer. The box office results have been incredibly successful for Strange. Strange will cross the $100 million U.S. mark. The 14th entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has also earned $240.7 million at the international box office and culminates to $339.6 million worldwide.
