With Captain America: Civil War’s digital and home media release, attention has quickly turned to Marvel Studio’s next chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe saga, Doctor Strange. This release is the most critical step for the future of the MCU.
In 2014, Guardians of the Galaxy was considered a risky venture. The story was filled with characters not widely known to the public and introduced the audience to a side of the MCU only somewhat explored in the Thor films, the cosmos.
Guardians, however, was a self contained story and served to introduce “the Orb”, one of the six Infinity Stones all leading to Avengers: Infinity War, and Thanos’s ultimate plan to take over and destroy the galaxy (if you ask me, likely in order to win the affection of Death).
With Doctor Strange, however, Marvel is doing a number of things that are completely new, and will likely chart the course for the future of the MCU for not just Phase 3, but beyond.
