Doctor Who Star Jenna Coleman Expected To Exit After Series 9

As the BBC hit series Doctor Who is about to return for its 9th series this upcoming weekend, it looks like fans of the beloved sci-fi series are going to have to prepare themselves to say goodbye to one of the core characters of the show after this season.

It was reported by The Mirror that actress Jenna Coleman who plays the 12th Doctor’s (Peter Capaldi) companion, Clara Oswald, is expected to departure Doctor Who by the end of the season before this year’s Christmas Special. Coleman has been the current companion after Karen Gillian and Arthur Darvill, who played Amy Pond and Rory Williams respectively, departed the show in the first half of Series 7.

As of this past series of Doctor Who, Coleman’s Clara has been the longest running companion in the 2005 revived series. There had even been rumors this past series that Coleman was going to leave the show after the Christmas Special “Last Christmas” which starred Nick Frost as Santa Claus. Immediately after that Christmas Special, BBC made the official announcement that Coleman had signed on for another series. Doctor Who and Coleman fans will be able to follow Coleman’s new adventures as she, according to The Mirror, has landed a new gig as Queen Victoria in the eight-part ITV drama Victoria.

Doctor Who begins its 9th series on Saturday, September 18 on BBC One and in the U.S. on the same day on BBC America.
