Having broken the diversity barrier Sunday night at the Emmy’s, along with Master of None’s Lena Waithe, Donald Glover had a lot to say after his historical win and endearing acceptance speech(es), especially when it came to possibly one day directing a film in the galaxy far, far away.
The Atlanta actor-writer-director, who is also playing young Lando Calrissian in the still untitled Han Solo movie, spoke with Entertainment Tonight about the possibility of taking the directing reins for a Star Wars film one day after becoming the first Black filmmaker to win Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series.
“I would be honored, but it’s a big plate, its a big plate. That’s a buffet plate… I don’t know if I’m ready for that yet.”
Even with fans clamoring for him to direct a big budget film, the humble multitalented artist admitted he does have a lot on his plate right now. A second season of Atlanta begins filming this week, he has a musical project in the works and just wrapped Star Wars with new director Ron Howard. He also announced during his acceptance, that he has a baby on the way. Also, given the rollercoaster Lucafilms president Kathleen Kennedy has put directors on ( Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, Colin Trevorrow and Gareth Edwards), Glover may want to stick to Atlanta for a little while.
